Why a music CD or album costs so much?

A newly released music CD or album consisting of 11 songs costs about $11.99 on average, about $1 on each song. Is that too much to pay for a song? Not every song in an album is very good compared to others, but all the songs cost the same. The average price of an album on iTunes (www.itunes.com) is $11.99. For some people, this may not be a very pricey thing. But, for many people around the world, especially people not living in the USA or Europe region, this is not cheap. It is very hard to buy albums for their cost, as a result of which people now download pirated songs from many sites on the internet. The artist or the band do not receive any payment for the download and this is strictly illegal. But, 1 USD is about 50 Indian Rupees. So, if an album costs about $12, then it costs about 600 Rupees. That's a lot to pay for a album!

But, on defense of the artists and bands,they also deserve the payment. They work very hard on their albums and stay up night after night just to work on their album. They try to make every song perfect and acceptable to all types of people. I agree that not every song will be great, but the artists do try. They do not get any paid vacations. They do not get any bonuses for outstanding performances or for Christmas. They sacrifice their family on special days to do concerts and bring happiness to people. They even need money to compose new songs, release albums and also advertise them. Their main source of income is the money they get from selling their albums. So, from this point, it really seems that $11.99 for a album is not much to pay.

Considering the amount of effort the artists put on their albums, I don't think $11.99 is a lot to pay for an album. But, in my opinion, the albums should be sold separately in the Europe and Asia continents. The price of the album in the Asia region should be reduced at least by 5 dollars, so that the people can buy them without having to spend much money. This can also help reduce piracy.
